Houses
Here we’ll look at the names and meanings given to the houses (known as ‘places’ in
Hellenistic astrology). Some of these are quite different from their modern equivalents,
and we’ll talk about why this is so, and how the ancient meanings can enrich
our modern perspective of them.

This is an introduction to the basic descriptions of planets by Hellenistic astrologers.

Hellenistic Astrological Psychology
Ptolemy's Tetribiblos contains history's first systematic rendition of
astrological psychology. This talk outlines two of his contributions.
One is developmental:
how are different planets featured at different stages of life? The other pertains
to character: how do we find the quality of soul and the planet or planets who
govern the soul? We will discuss how to assess Moon and Mercury for psychological
issues, how to determine which planet in a natal chart governs the soul, and
how to interpret that planet for determination of character. This will give us
insight into what is meant by "character" and "soul" and
relationship relationship to the body. We will use example charts and provide
information for participants to apply to their own charts and those of others.

Allotment and
Fate: Why Hellenistic Astrologers Used Lots and What Modern Astrologers
Can Do with Them
The Lot (a.k.a. Part) of Fortune was not the only lot used by Hellenistic
astrologers, even though it’s pretty much the only one currently
in use by astrologers today. First, we’ll talk about why ‘lot’ and
not ‘part’ (a little history and a little etymology). Next,
we’ll look at the most used lots in the Hellenistic astrologer’s
arsenal, including the Lot of Fortune and the Lot of Daimon (also called
the Lot of Spirit). Since these lots are mirror images of each other, they
are often linked together in Hellenistic astrological technique. We’ll
look at what they mean (literally and metaphorically), why astrologers
like Vettius Valens thought they were important, and how we can use them
today. We’ll demonstrate with current charts how effective they can
be in interpretation. We’ll also give you an easy way to quickly
find these lots in your own chart. |

Hellenistic Timing Techniques
The corpus of Hellenistic astrology contains a wealth of timing procedures
that have been lost to modern practice due to errors of transmission and
translation. Discover how ancient astrologers used annual profections combined
with solar returns to investigate what aspect of the natal potential could
be realized during a particular year. Direct timing by planetary periods
and the ascensional times of the signs is a simple but powerful technique
that pinpoints a range of dates at which the significations of individual
planets and planetary aspects become activated and manifest as events.

COMBINATIONS
OF POWER (RAHU
AND KETU)
In Vedic astrology the lunar nodes known as Rahu and Ketu have special
powers in a chart. They are referred to as our karmic destiny. They will
indicate our greatest gifts and our darkest issues. In prediction they
are where the eclipses fall and indicate the areas of our life that involve
the most transformation for that year.
When the lunar nodes are combined with another planet they will take
on the quality of that planet. They are like mirrors magnifying the energy
of that planet. In this class we will see the power combinations of the
nodes conjunct the planets in natal charts. Each combination will produce
amazing but very different results. Using many chart examples of famous
individuals we see the effects of the many combinations of an individual
planet with Rahu or Ketu. You will view these combinations of power as
a focal point in your readings.

How to Read the Vedic chart
In this class you will learn how planets give their results dependant
on the houses they rule and aspect (drishti). Planets carry the meanings
of the houses they rule. This determines whether they give a benefic
or malefic influence as they cast their aspects to houses and other
planets. Saturn can give blessings while Jupiter can bring suffering.
You will understand planets, aspects and fine tune your analysis
to give specific profound details. |

Forecasting with the Vedic Dasha System (Planetary Periods)
The Vimshottari Dasha system developed by the great sage, Parashara
is a comprehensive forecasting technique of that reveals the developmental
life cycle unfoldment throughout one’s incarnation. Dasha means
a “stage or condition in life.” The nine Vedic planetary
periods are very helpful in understanding the seasons of our life
and planning long term goals. This dynamic assessment technique estimates
when positive potentials as well as developmental challenges may
occur. The dashas are indicators of when certain karmas have matured
or ripened. During this lecture, we will explore the life events
and planetary periods of Albert Einstein as reflected through the
ancient dasha system of Vedic Astrology.

Most

We know the four triplicities, fire, earth, air and water
largely as the source of elemental emphasis in the horoscope. However,

Reception
and Disposition: “Can you hear me now?”
Horary astrology has got to be the "weirdest" but also the most
intriguing form of astrology anyone can learn. It's "weird" because
it presupposes not only a belief that the heavens are mirroring the earth
at certain moments in time, but also a belief that one can have a dialogue
with the heavens concerning those same moments in time! But a horary dialogue
without attention to reception and disposition is like a deaf person replying
to a low talker – you may hear things that were never spoken. In this
talk, we’ll examine how an understanding of reception and disposition,
when reading horary charts, can make the difference between correct and incorrect
answers for your horary questions. |

"Hanging on by a thread: Exploring a deeper understanding of the Essential
Dignities of Terms and Face in Natal and Horary Astrology"
The Essential Dignities can be seen as a detailed articulation on the nature
and quality of a person, place or thing as dictated by the Sun’s motions.
Samuel Reynolds identifies three interpenetrating levels—form (actual
physical vitality), attitude (perception of vitality) and fortune (attachment
to the cumulative remainder of thing's or person's vitality) by which to understand
these dignities deeper. By a brief historical analysis and using charts, he
will focus on the “lesser” dignities of Terms (or bounds) and Face
and demonstrate how to reveal more of the “essential” nature of
someone or something examined.

Strength
and Weakness according to Avraham Ibn Ezra:
Who has the Last Say in the Matter?
In addition to the five classical dignities, Ibn Ezra provides an extensive
list of testimonies and factors that affect the strength and the choice of
a significator planet. These include: Evaluation of the nativity ruler, judgment
by house placement, by the planet’s elevation, by position in its wheel,
by relation to the earth, by ecliptical latitude, by quadrants and by terrestrial
direction. This lecture is intended as a comprehensive summary of the topic
across all of Ibn Ezra’s works, including the new translation of The
Book of Nativities, as well as some of those not published in English yet. |

THE ASCENDANCE OF SPIRIT, THE FREEDOM OF PEACE: UNDERSTANDING THE DISTINCT
ROLE OF URANUS AND NEPTUNE IN OUR SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
While Uranus
and Neptune touch upon a wide range of matters in our lives, the
focus of this workshop will be on defining their particular role
in our spiritual development. When these two bodies interact, free
will and fate intermingle, often leaving us bewildered when faced
with both realities. We will discuss how to best use these influences
to consciously elevate our spirit and realize the freedom of peace.
Uranus and
Neptune will be placed in each house and sign, so participants understand
how to apply the concepts discussed in their own chart.

DARKNESS AND LIGHT: THE INFLUENCE OF ECLIPSES
An eclipse of the Sun or Moon has always drawn attention. While the mystery and
suspicion surrounding eclipses has subsided, the meaning is still somewhat elusive.
Join Gloria Star and explore the nature of the eclipses – from Saros Cycle
to Prenatal Eclipse, to Nodal Returns. Find out how and when eclipses are more
relevant to your own life, and when the eclipses are more like watching a movie.
Hopefully, illumination will follow!

ARROWS OF EMPHASIS: SCORING A BULL'S EYE IN CHART INTERPRETATION
Many students of Jyotisha find themselves drowning in a sea of detail and
need the lifeline of how to prioritize to effectively navigate the waters.
This one day seminar explores various techniques that will allow you to get
to that “sweet spot” around which you can organize a meaningful
session. Students should have some background in the basics of Jyotisha – chart “geography”,
grahas, bhavas, rashis and aspects.

BRINGING THE BIRTH CHART TO LIFE
This workshop will explore a dynamic and in-depth approach to chart interpretation.
Instead of looking at a chart as if it was a separate entity to be analyzed,
Rick will reveal an array of insights and processes for expanding awareness
of any chart. Natal charts of participants will be used to illustrate experiential
techniques, such as role playing, storytelling, and astrodrama. Animating chart
factors to integrate intellect and emotion will deepen your understanding of
astrology and increase your ability to utilize it in your life and for your clients.

Astrology of Location – The Geodetic
Map
While the system of Geodetics is less well known than Astro*Carto*GraphyTM, it
reveals insights into the energy of the planets from an alternative, yet complimentary
perspective, which indicates how you personally connect with a location and the
culture at that location. This lecture will define the fixed Geodetic Grid, which
is the foundation of a Geodetic Map, and explore how this grid is reflected by
cultures around the world. Then, Scott will explore examples of Geodetic Mapping
and how the little known, but powerful technique of Geodetic Resonance identifies
important locations where the birth chart resonates in harmony with the location
and culture.

Big Ups
and Downs in Locational Astrology: The
Rise and Fall of Planetary Stardust and the Interconnections from Mars
(and the other Planets)
No, it’s not a lecture on David Bowie’s finest album, it’s
about unraveling what I feel is the most exciting, and still relatively
fathomable, mystery of astrology. How do our experiences predictably change
in every locale, and what are some valuable keys that ancient astrologers
found that can help us decipher the planets and zodiac today? Some focus
will be given to demonstrating through startling examples the degrees of
exaltation and fall that have been handed down by astrologers for millenia.
The contributions of astrologers long past are very much alive … just
waiting for us to remember and honor our own history. |

Horary and the
Hunt for Missing Things
Mislaid things, lost objects and stolen goods fall
into the same bracket as missing or abducted pets/people, presenting
the greatest – but
potentially most satisfying – challenge to any horary astrologer.
Yet traditional texts seem to give contradictory instruction on these
issues, their authors often keen to point out how little interest
they
had in these uncomfortable topics. Modern texts are jus |
